Raise awareness by blowing a bubble for those who can’t!
Bubbles Will Be Blowing at McCulloch Wilson Dental During the Oral Cancer Cause’s Second Annual Bubble Gum Challenge
Saturday, April 1, 2017, McCulloch Wilson Dental, is pleased to announce its participation in the Second Annual Bubble Gum Challenge to increase public awareness of oral cancer and help cancer patients through financial support. Created by Oral Cancer Cause, Inc. (OCC), a non-profit organization that is in its fifth year of improving the lives of oral cancer patients and their families, the Challenge is a whimsical way to draw attention to a devastating disease with a 50 percent mortality rate.
Approximately 60,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. each year. The Bubble Gum Challenge seeks to raise awareness about the incidence of oral cancer, the significant impacts of treatment and the necessity of early diagnosis and treatment. It also focuses on raising funds to enable OCC to continue providing financial assistance to patients and their families, enhancing their quality of life during and after treatment.
“Oral cancer is a silent killer that results in one death every hour. At McCulloch Wilson Dental, our values align with OCC’s as we strive to raise awareness about oral cancer, while seeking ways to reduce its prevalence,” said Dr. Melissa Wilson of McCulloch Wilson Dental. “The OCC’s Bubble Gum Challenge is a fun and engaging way to raise awareness of a deadly disease whose treatment can forever alter the lives of survivors.”
Oral cancer treatments often leave patients unable to do many activities others take for granted, such as the ability to chew gum or blow bubbles. As a Bubble Gum Challenge participating practice, McCulloch Wilson Dental will raise awareness of oral cancer by posting photos and videos on social media of its team blowing bubbles for survivors who cannot.
“We are thrilled at McCulloch Wilson Dental’s participation in the Bubble Gum Challenge,” said Robin Morrison, who co-founded OCC with Linda Miles in memory of two family members who lost their battles with oral cancer. “They will play an important role in achieving our shared goals of ensuring patients can live with peace and dignity throughout and after their treatments.”
